QB race coming to end?
After the second scrimmage of fall camp Saturday, Auburn offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Gus Malzahn still has a problem. It's the same one he had before: He needs a starting quarterback.
Sophomore Clint Moseley hopes he is the answer, but so does junior Barrett Trotter and freshman Kiehl Frazier. The three have been competing for the spot since fall camp began Aug. 3.
Malzahn said Saturday's scrimmage should produce some "very good information" to solve his problem, to name a starting quarterback. But will it be enough?
"I hope so," Malzahn said. "The earlier the better."
Time is running out for Malzahn and the Tigers. Auburn opens its 2011 season in just three weeks. Malzahn said he knows he doesn't have much longer to decide between the junior, sophomore and freshman.
The three are quality quarterbacks, said Malzahn. They all have had their good days and bad throughout fall camp. They all did good things in the first two scrimmages. They all did things that need improvement.
Malzahn will consider the performances of the quarterbacks in every fall practice and scrimmage before making his choice. ...
