Mississippi State has something to prove on the plains this morning at 11:21 a.m.
If the 16th ranked Bulldogs want to take the next step as a contender in the SEC West they will have to knockoff the defending national champion Auburn Tigers, who are riding a 16-game winning streak, at home.
MSU came close last season in Starkville but missed several opportunities to capitalize late and lost 17-14. The Tigers had 348 yards of offense led by eventual Heisman Trophy winner and No. 1 overall NFL Draft pick Cameron Newton who totaled 228 of those yards and two touchdowns.
That 2010 win pushed Auburn's edge in the series to 59-23-2 and three straight victories. The Tigers have won nine of the last 10 meetings and hold a 26-6 record over State at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
