Chizik at a crossroads
AUBURN -- These are anxious days for coach Gene Chizik.
He'll never show that. He doesn't work that way. The son of a decorate Marine, Chizik keeps his opinions to himself most of the time and rarely provides more than a peek into his inner-most thoughts.
Yet one mustn't reside within the walls of Chizik's inner circle to know the importance, both on a personal and professional level, of how the next two months of football will affect the Tigers' coach. His program, less than two years since winning a national title, appears to have slumped toward mediocrity in a way nobody on the Auburn payroll could have forecasted.
