Dawgs bolstering the offensive line
At first glance, it looks as the Georgia coaching staff has gone a bit overboard in recruiting offensive linemen. However, a closer look at the situation shows that the team is desperately low on big guys, and with talent already in place at the skill positions, UGA needs as many Dawgs as they can get for the trenches.
A few weeks ago, UGASports chronicled the chain of events that landed the Bulldogs landing in ankle deep depth up front, and since that time, the team has lost still another lineman. Not only does that further drain the shallow talent pool, but the player suspended indefinitely from the team, Ian Smith, was in line to be the first team starter next spring.
As it stands today, the Bulldogs have just three players with experience returning for 2007. Guards Chester Adams and Fernando Velasco will be seniors, while their key backup from 2006, Seth Watts, will be a junior.
The good news is that there are three other offensive linemen on campus, Chris Davis, Josh Davis, and Kevin Perez, but each redshirted this season as true freshmen and will be getting their first taste of SEC action next fall.
That makes it six players to fill the 10 positions on the offensive line's depth chart. Already four short, these six must avoid injuries like the plague.
