October 30, 2009 AuburnSports.com has added to its panel of participants for its annual College Pick'em contest. The panel now includes Auburn beat writers as well as three former Tiger players. Former quarterback Ben Leard, former offensive lineman Joe Cope and former receiver Brad Smith will make their picks each week and include their prediction and thoughts on Auburn's upcoming game.
Ben Leard: Ole Miss 27-10.
I think the worst two possible scenarios happened last Saturday: 1) Auburn got stomped in Death Valley and were not able to pull away from Baton Rouge with any "Silver Lining" to that cloud. 2) Ole Miss got a huge "W" versus Arkansas. Essentially you have two teams matching up on Saturday that look to be headed in opposite directions. Unfortunately for Auburn, they are not going in the direction that we would hope. Offensively the woes will continue due to a lack of confidence, consistency, and ability to execute with purpose. This will also be the best front seven that the Tigers have faced this season so Chris Todd should not expect much time in the pocket. Defensively, as always, tackling and depth will be the achilles heel for Auburn. Ole Miss realized Saturday that McCluster is a stud and needs to carry the ball as often as possible. That is not good news for the Tiger "D". Look for Ole Miss to take advantage of Auburn's lack of creativity on defense at the line of scrimmage. Although Snead is a train wreck at times, he can read a defense and audible the Rebels into a more productive situation. Oh yeah, the game is at 11:21 a.m., and we all know how well the Tigers play early on Saturday mornings. Brad Smith: Auburn 24-21.
Got to win sooner or later and I sure hope it is sooner! Rachel Morand: Ole Miss 27-17.
Auburn is terrible in home morning games. Well, morning games, period. Gus Malzahn would probably love to stick it to Houston Nutt and pull off some fancy offensive trickery, but it won't happen this year. The Ole Miss defense is too good. I'm gonna be so mad if Auburn wins the week I jump ship. Jeffrey Lee: Auburn 24-20.
Gus Malzahn pulls out all the stops in this one. He wants this win as bad as any. Although the Tigers' defense gives up points and yardage to a potent Ole Miss offensive attack, Auburn's defense comes up with a big stop late in the game to clinch it and get the Tigers bowl eligible. Luke Brietzke: Ole Miss 27-17.
Auburn's offense takes a step forward, but Jevan Snead continues his rebound from a tough early season and throws for 250-plus in the Rebels' win. Andrew Gribble: Ole Miss 37-21.
Insert Navy Nightmare reference here. Jay Tate: TBA Charles Goldberg: Auburn 23-21.
The line has moved from Ole Miss being favored by 3 1/2 points to 4
1/2 points. Really, do bettors ever get it right? Evan Woodbery: Ole Miss 27-20.
Auburn is at its lowest point in the season, while the Rebels are probably at their highest. If things always worked accordingly to plan, this would be a blowout. But things rarely seem to happen that way in the SEC. Mark Johnson: Ole Miss 17-13.
The Rebels have problems on defense and a serious deficiency on the offensive line. But they still have enough to get past slumping Auburn. Bill Cameron: Ole Miss 27-17.
Math majors can't like the Tigers' offensive regression. The numbers have been dropping for five straight games, and unless something good happens early, it will be very difficult for them to keep up with the Rebels. Ole Miss appears to pose worse matchups than LSU, and it's an early kickoff. However, it looks like a good chance of rain, and the Tigers have played some of their best football in the wet stuff. Andy Bitter: Ole Miss 27-20.
Jevan Snead and Dexter McCluster are hitting their stride. That's the last thing Auburn's defense wants to see this week. Bryan Matthews: Ole Miss 27-10.
Auburn couldn't score on LSU last week and faces a higher-ranked Ole Miss defense this week. I don't like the Tigers chances of stopping the slide this Saturday. Mike Szvetitz: Auburn 3-2.
I have no reason to pick Auburn, which is enough of a reason. Plus, I figure, if I want to beat Mr. Quarter, I've got to start picking some upsets. So, there you have it. I'm throwing a Hail Mary. Joe Cope: Ole Miss 21-17.
This game I believe will come down to the first drive of the game. If Auburn gets the ball first, they have to score. If they go on defense first, they must stop Ole Miss from scoring. It's about regaining confidence for Auburn. I will be there so I hope we can pull it off. Mr. Quarter: Auburn 4-3.
Auburn's offense couldn't score with Tila Tequila on tequila, much less against Ole Miss' defense. But enough about the game, where are all the Ole Miss hotties hanging? You can find me there. Hotty Totty, ladies. My name is The Quarter. |
